Cleveland Utilities Authority, a municipal utility providing electric, water, wastewater and fiber
services to the Cleveland, Tennessee/Bradley County area, is seeking a Fiber Network Engineer. This
position will serve as the principal technical representative to our customers in the design,
implementation, maintenance and support of their carrier network.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Perform installation, configuration, and support of customer’s Central Office network devices,
systems, and related equipment.
• Responsible for the daily performance and availability of the network with an emphasis on 5x9’s
availability.
• Resolve all Tier 1 and Tier 2 escalations in a Carrier Network environment.
• Develop and follow detailed MOP’s/SOP’s related to the deployment and maintenance of equipment
to ensure interoperability and network availability.
• Provide customer oversight related to network upgrades, capacity planning and life-cycle
management.
• Acquire and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all customer equipment and software related to
their delivery of services.
• Develop and maintain up-to-date documentation related to topology and configuration
specifications of the network.
• Ensure front-line customer satisfaction by dealing professionally and effectively with our
customers and their customers.
• Support the customer’s Operations Department with an emphasis on mentoring and elevating the
skill set of the customer’s technical team.
• Review and develop best practice policies to promote operational continuous improvements and
efficiencies.
• Assist with procurement of equipment and vendor management.
• Oversee and manage FTTx network installation and upgrade projects.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Associates degree (two-year college or technical school): Required. Field of Study: Engineering,
Computer Science, Telecommunications or related discipline.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (from an accredited college/university): Preferred. Field
of Study: Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related discipline.
• A valid Class “D” Tennessee Driver’s License.
• Three plus years of network support experience in a service/provider carrier
environment.
• Experience configuring virtualized server environments, such as VMware or KVM.
• Advanced knowledge of OSP engineering and functions.
• Advanced knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, OSI model Layers 1-4 and various routing and switching
protocols.
• Available to work after hours when needed and perform call duty.
