Cleveland Utilities Authority, a municipal utility providing electric, water, wastewater and fiber services to the Cleveland, Tennessee/Bradley County area, is seeking an Apprentice Lineman to construct and maintain our electrical transmission and distribution facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide assistance in the construction and maintenance of distribution and transmission lines.
  • Assist in the installation of underground cables, wire, conduit, metering, transformers, pads, switch gear, protective devices, pull boxes, pedestal, and lighting equipment.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as shovel, post-hole diggers, tamps, etc. to assist crew members in providing electrical service to customers.
  • Perform linework on both overhead and underground services.
  • Perform all aspects of the job utilizing all required safety procedures and equipment.
  • Climb poles and perform linework more than 75-feet, while using climbing gear.
  • Work in elevated positions from aerial lifts, ladders, and substation structures.
  • Operate boom trucks, forklifts, specialized line equipment, testing equipment and other equipment.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are in safe working conditions and well maintained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Working Line Foreman/Line Section Supervisor.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Electrical Lineworker Program.
  • Ability to advance from an apprentice to a journeyman lineman through the TVPPA apprenticeship training program within 5-years of employment.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Hand and arm dexterity for using hand tools to make connections.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to perform heavy/manual labor.
  • Ability to climb heights.
