Event Description:
The August program of our Women's Council quarterly programs will discuss the topic of Leadership for Women in Pubic Service. Our speaker will be retired Cleveland City Manager Janice Casteel. Her career with the City of Cleveland spanned almost 43 years beginning in October of 1973 as a front counter deputy clerk collecting property taxes and other revenues of the city. While working full time, she continued night classes at Cleveland State Community College and later graduated from UTC. She was promoted into several positions with the city and served as the city’s first interim city manager after the change in the form of government to Council-Manager, in 1993. She was named Assistant City Manager in 2006 and Cleveland City Manager from July 1, 2007 until her retirement on May 31, 2016.
Mrs. Casteel has spent the two years since her retirement enjoying her family – husband, two sons and a daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, sisters and brother and their families, as well as her church family at Maple Street Baptist. She continues to enjoy camping with her family in their RV and recently took up kayaking.
The cost for the program is $15 for Chamber members and $25 for nonmembers and includes a buffet luncheon. Chamber members may use admission credits from their tiered investment if available.
