Event Description:
Food for thought is defined as "something for someone to think about, issues to be considered."

On Thursday, June 15, at noon, the Small Business Committee will serve "Food for Thought" for members of the Chamber of Commerce.

The menu for these Dutch-treat membership luncheons will include a variety of speakers addressing diverse topics of interest to the community throughout the year.

Cleveland City Manager Joe Fivas will speak for the June “Food for Thought” on plans for the city of Cleveland. Since his arrival in Cleveland, he hit the ground running, first with a plan for what he hoped to accomplish in his first 100 days. As part of his work in the eight months he has been city manager, the city has conducted a community survey to determine concerns from all segments of the populations. His goal going forward is to have an open and non-bureaucratic government and to share information and ideas, keep the public informed and work as a team.

Fivas has a Juris Doctorate from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, a master's degree in Public Administration and a bachelor of science degree. His past experiences include working for Michigan Speaker of the House and being the assistant director of State Affairs for the Michigan Municipal League.

He is a former member of the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) Municipal Finance and Tax Committee; a member of the Alliance for South Charlotte Communities; North Carolina City and County Manager Association (NCCCMA); International City Management Association (ICMA); and the Union West Rotary.

The “Food for Thought” Dutch-treat luncheon requires reservations to facilitate room setup and food. Please make your reservation by Tuesday, June 13.
